WHAT LIVES MUST DIE

We built our dream together.

We had the house and the kids.

Our love was strong.

What went wrong?

Our love was alive,

but what lives must die.

We danced and sang our songs.

It didn’t last long.

Twelve years together, all in vain.

It left us both in so much pain.

Over the years we repaired our relationship.

Over time the pain subsided.

The love that lived in the house,

when we were each other’s spouses,

lived strong and died hard.

That’s why it was so hard to part.

The Rose

THE ROSE

A POEM FROM MY BOOK “THE CHILL TURNED WARM”

The painting of the rose brings such beauty into my life.

It’s such a wonderful sight.

For a moment, I can escape from the strife.

When I can’t sleep at night,

I can remember the delicate beauty of the rose in the daylight.

The thorns will prick your hand if you hold it tight,

so let go of the stress in your life.

The rose’s aroma is such a delight.

It’s also pleasing to gaze at it by candlelight.

Each petal unfolds a mystery and gives insight.

I delight in the painting of the rose

with all of my might.

The Winding Path

LIFE IS LIKE A WINDING PATH

A POEM FROM “THE CHILL TURNED WARM”

Life is like a winding path.

If you zig when you’re supposed to zag,

tongues will wag.

Let them talk.

I’ll take the path I want to walk.

As long as I have true friends who stay,

only God can tell me I’m going the wrong way.

The path changes directions

just like you might have to make corrections.

As long as it leads you back to the cross,

because the blood of Jesus was the cost.

He left us the Holy Spirit

to guide, comfort , and interpret.

As long as you remember that,

you’re on the right path.

Heaven’s Gate and a Christmas Card for All

HEAVEN’S GATE

A POEM FROM MY BOOK, “THE CHILL TURNED WARM.”

The entrance to the gate is ajar.

I wonder if it will lead me very far.

Perhaps I will be able to touch the stars.

Maybe it’s Heaven’s gate

that will let me escape the world’s heavy weight.

If that’s the case,

to the finish line I would race

to see my Heavenly Father’s face.

I would drop to my knees

and ask for forgiveness, please.

I would wipe my tear from his feet

and pray for love and mercy instead of defeat.

Through Jesus’s name I would plead.

My Heart I Leave Behind and a Christmas card for All

MY HEART I LEAVE BEHIND

Poem From my book, “THE CHILL TURNED WARM.”

I’m not lying.

When I am dying

loving you will be

flashing through my mind.

All of our time together

will be of utmost importance.

All of my memories will spill over

like a floodgate.

Knowing what’s at stake

I wouldn’t change it.

Our love will be for all time.

Don’t worry, it’ll all be fine.

My heart I leave behind.

Secret Getaway From my book, “THE CHILL TURNED WARM.”

SECRET GETAWAY

BY BONNIE GAIL CARTER

Now it looks like a cold, lonely place.

Oh, how I long to see your face.

Come near to me, my dear.

I don’t ever want to instill any fear.

Holding your hand is something I miss.

I distinctly remember our long goodnight kiss.

This bench was our secret getaway.

The tranquility was one reason to stay.

Our emotions for each other couldn’t be measured.

The memories are most definitely treasured.

The blanket of snow may melt,

but nothing can take away what we felt.

Deep spiritual love is graced upon so few.

Why does everything remind me of you?
